- **Event Description**: Dundalk Punk folk Singer Jinx Lennon +Galway Singer songwriter extraordinaire Sophie Coyle play a bunch of songs in the magical Tin churchAbout this EventJinx LennonMyself Jinx Lennon punk poet have been writing and recording music since 1980 and i was involved in a number of underground bands from 1985 to 1999 including Sneaky Pete and the Ostrich,Zen emeralds,Silver Seeds,Novena Babes,The Frocks .I went solo in 1999 influenced by the new wave of roots bands such as Handsome Family .The aim was to mix James Brown and Iggy Pop to hip hop,Flaming Lips and Irish folk but it happily went in all sorts of tangents after that .I was part of the Arts/Lives Series on RTE 1 Irish TV in the documentary ‘’Noisemaker’2007’..In 2012 i collaborated with writer Pat Mc Cabe(Breakfast In Pluto/The Butcher Boy) and U.K. film maker Kevin Allen(Twin Towns) on original music for a movie that has yet to be released .I performed at their own festival the magical Flat Lake Festival every year between 2007-2011 which included performances from Viv Albertine,Dylan Moran,Mik Artistic,David Holmes .In 2013 .I performed at an event called the Curfew Tower Project which is a location owned by musician/artist Bill Drummond(KLF) in Co. Antrim which centred around an art project involving the Liverpool band Clinic and the Static Gallery in Liverpool .My wife Sophie Coyle and myself stayed at the tower for a residency where I recorded a song for the project which is part of an album release on Liverpool band Clinic's own label produced by Clinic and featuring UK bands such as Ex Easter Island Head .I also performed at ''Music For a New Revolution''in Derry alongside Billy Bragg and the Protest Family North East ''.My work started to be published as poetry in 2011 when the ''Shine On'' collection came out which was for the Shine Organisation supporting people with mental health problems.I performed on The Tommy Tiernan show Irish TV 2021.I was recently featured in the film ‘’Celtic Utopia’’ featured at Cannes 2025.It was directed by Dennis Harvey and Swedish film maker Lars Loven about the edgier side of Irish folk influenced music and an upcoming Jinx +Irish act Mary Wallopers songwriting collaboration will be featured on BBC 2 in 2026 as part of Cumasc: Seisiun Sa Black Gate series .I have toured America twice ,i performed since 2006 at Electric Picnic IRL from 2006 to 2025.Glastonbury UK 2024.Body and Soul IRL 2017,2018,All together Now 2022 IRL ,Latitude UK 2014 Spacekraft MS Stubnitz festival Hamburg 2024As Jinx Lennon i sing about what I believe is happening in the real world as seen through the eyes of my border schizo punk fffolk music emanating from the Irish borderlands .Subjected in my youth to the split screen of Republic Ireland and Northern Ireland volatile goings on and the sort of doublethink politics no one would wish on any young head I ended up throwing it all into a blender along with my favorite sci fi books and mindfuckery of living in joyless holy Eire. Now I sing it all with the aim of not making life any more unbearable for the listener overwhelmed by modern existence with the rawness and coherent d.i.y. and anti hero realness that any true head out there requires .I have toured with John Cooper Clarke played antifolk festivals in Denmark Street with the likes of Fat White Family and supported the Fall and Irish folk legend Christy Moore .My songs ‘Newry Bird’ and ‘We don’t see anything ‘ have become anthems in the pubs and open mikes in Belfast .PRESSWilliam Russell HOT PRESS review of latest record‘The hate agents leer at the last isle of hope’Jinx Lennon’s tremendously titled new album is mightily comparable to Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood with its epic ambition, magnificent wordplay and the erudite eye of its omniscient narrator. The singer’s capacity for channelling a multitude of characters into bite-sized chunks is marvellous, and a patchwork of citizenry from his hometown of Dundalk is wonderfully depicted here. Flann O’Brien, John Cooper Clarke and Mark E. Smith usually enter the conversation when discussing Jinx Lennon, and they’re definitive touchstones on this record.‘A beacon to the D.I.Y. scene in Ireland’ Totally dublin‘Lennon’s wry humour means there’s enough levity to avoid pontification’ Sunday times Culture Magazine‘Lennon means to warn the local good guys about the bad guys waiting to f**k them up’Christgau-Rolling Stone/Village voiceSOPHIE COYLESophie Coyle follows up the success of her first album with her latest alt-folk release, “Cuentista”. This set of eleven original songs and two old Spanish ballads chronicles Coyle’s voyages in South America. Featuring a rich soundscape of musicians and the love of storytelling and melody Coyle is known for, this album promises to be an extremely good listen. Mellow and with a distinctly South American-influenced flavour it puts one in mind of a tango bar at closing time. She will be touring “Cuentista,” or “Storyteller”, across Ireland with her band in April 2024. The album was recorded over the COVID lock downs in the Black Mountain Studios and Wynne Wynne Recording Studios in Co. Louth and mixed by Chris Barry (Junior Brother, The Mary Wallopers) at Ailfionn Recording Studios with tracks arranged and performed by Glas Quartet and their founder Annmarie McGahon (Biffy Clyro)."Sophie Coyle’s music is gathering a reputation for a unique folk sound with a strong narrative strain." - Irish Music Magazine“Coyle uses softness as a weapon. She has a sharp knack for storytelling, bringing us on journeys across the world or into other realms, and these songs double up as fantastical and timeless fables Whether she’s conjuring up magic or brewing up something darker, Coyle’s voice and narrative takes charge” - Irish Times 4/5"Her music can best be described as gothic folk, where sweet melodies contrast beautifully with her dark lyrics. What is very clear is that Coyle constructs in images. She writes her lyrics from a powerful vision." - The Next Gig review
