Content Isn’t Something You Read, It’s Something You Do
The way you write for the web should be much, much different than the way you write for most traditional media. That’s because people don’t read online. Visitors to websites and applications aren’t reading word for word like they would an essay or a book (for the most part – we aren’t talking about blogs or e-books here). Instead, they’re trying to use words to get something done. And they want it done as quickly and easily as possible.
When a wall of copy stands in someone’s way as they try to navigate a screen or fill out a form, they’ll run in the other direction. They could even abandon your site or app forever. Over time, this will reduce your leads, conversions, sales, and online engagement.
We need a web content revolution. We need the right words in the right place doing the right job. We need to make our content something users can do instead of something they dread.
