Triplum is a Portland-based instrumental ensemble performing a repertoire spanning from medieval to ragtime music. With instruments as diverse as hurdy-gurdy, medieval fiddles, douçaine, bass clarinet, viola, and harpsichord at their disposal, the tonal palette is other-worldly. Triplum has been performing together as a trio and as part of larger groups such as Orchestra of the Moon and Big Mouth Society since 2015. Regional concert series appearances for Triplum include Global Folk Club at the White Eagle Saloon in Portland, the Third Sundays at Three series in Junction City, the chamber music series at Silverton United Methodist Church, in Silverton, Oregon, and a benefit for Ukraine organized by Classical Revolution PDX.
Aage Nielsen (bass clarinet, douçaine) performed for over twenty years with the Boise Philharmonic, taught at the College of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University, performed in Denmark, the Netherlands, and Iceland as the founder of Boise based Darkwood Consort, and performs with several Portland based chamber groups.
Ben Neubauer (vielle, viola) is one of the few vielle players on the west coast. Since he made his own vielle, he is planning to study more formally to become a luthier. As a violist, he studied at Oberlin Conservatory and is an active chamber musician in Portland.
Jacob Breedlove (bass rebec, hurdy-gurdy, harpsichord) has a background as a multi-instrumentalist, puppeteer, and harpsichord builder, and has performed at Camlann Medieval Village for over thirty years.
