New album ‘Elan’ is a psychedelic portrait of the Elan Valley in Powys, Wales. It was written during a year-long residency in the Cambrian Mountains and explores the landscape, history and politics of the valley, which was flooded at the end of the Victorian era to create a series of reservoirs for drinking water. The album features a full band, synths and strings and draws on folk-rock, psych and pop influences to invoke the dramatic landscapes of Elan.
A captivating performer, Gareth has performed all over the world, from the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC to the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. He has toured extensively in the UK, performing at prominent festivals such as Glastonbury, The Green Man, Latitude and Cambridge Folk. His recent works include the solo guitar and vocal album Galargan, a stripped-back exploration of Welsh folk song that garnered a rare 5* review in the Guardian.

Eugene Capper’s technical prowess has enabled a diverse array of musical styles to be incorporated into his own. Encompassing folk, lo-fi, surf and psych, his output is as unpredictable as it is assured. A surge of releases on Bubblewrap included the overtly experimental and often krautrock-driven ’Inverted Montage Tape’, as well as the ever-so slightly more conventional, yet still unmistakably progressive, ‘Grapefruit Monologue’. ‘Pontvane’, his release with collaborator Rhodri Brooks, was nominated for the Welsh Music Prize.

Rhys Dafis hails from West Wales but now lives in Cardiff. He released his First single, ‘Eli Haul’, at the end of 2022. His songs, all written in his native Welsh, are permeated with a sense of nostalgia, and explore themes such as longing, alienation, mental health and the internal conflict involved in belonging to a minority culture. He released his latest single, ‘Trigo’, in April. ‘Trigo’ can mean to die as well as to live, and this song explores Welsh language culture through the lens of this paradox - how it can feel full of life one minute, and in its death throes the next.
