# Event Details

- **Event Name**: Dr Martin Odler. Ancient Egyptian and Nubian metallurgy
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 26 Feb, 2026 at 02:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Over the past decade, research into ancient Egyptian metallurgy has grown rapidly, shedding new light on how metals were made and used, while also opening up fresh questions. This lecture will explore how ancient Egyptians and Nubians worked with metals from the Predynastic and Early Dynastic Periods through the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms, up to the end of the New Kingdom (c. 4000–1100 BC). Challenging the popular view of Egyptian technology as “primitive”, the talk will trace key developments across four main stages of metalworking: mining and smelting ore, storing and trading metal, crafting artefacts, and their everyday use.

Dr Martin Odler, Newcastle university.
