This section is a beautiful, steady ascent that quickly opens up views across Carlingford Lough, with the Mournes rising across the water behind us.As we continue the trail leaving the Tain Way behind we are pulled deeper into the Cooley Mountains, gaining height at a manageable, consistent pace. The scenery opens up dramatically and becomes increasingly wild and open, with rolling slopes, mountain streams and long, sweeping views as we work our way towards the upper mountain.. and of course that unmistakable sense of space that the Cooley Mountains do so well.The final ascent brings us onto the broad summit area of Slieve Foy, the highest point in the Cooley Mountains. From here, we’ll take time to pause, soak it all in, and enjoy panoramic views stretching along the coastline, across the lough, and deep into the surrounding mountains — a real highlight of the day.From the summit, we descend on the southern side of Slieve Foye, completing the loop as we gradually drop back down towards Carlingford. Lunch is optional and not included (but highly recommended ?).After lunch, we’ll head over to the Saunas With Soul for a proper recharge — time to slow it all down, sink into the heat, relax tired legs, and finish with a revitalising sea dip.
