The Big Sea is a powerful investigative documentary exposing the toxic link between neoprene wetsuit production and environmental racism. The film reveals how the surf industry’s reliance on synthetic rubber fuels deadly pollution in Louisiana’s infamous “Cancer Alley”, an 85-mile industrial corridor with alarmingly high cancer rates. Featuring interviews with community activists, environmental scientists, and surf industry insiders, the film uncovers corporate greenwashing while challenging surfers to rethink their purchasing habits. It highlights sustainable alternatives such as plant-based Yulex wetsuits and calls for fundamental introspection within the global surf community. Four years in the making, The Big Sea is both a wake-up call and a rallying cry for ethical, sustainable surfing.
