More on the Artist:
Thembi Dunjana is a Cape town born pianist who started playing piano at the age of 11. She has completed a BMUS in jazz performance and Master’s in Music at the University of Cape Town. We first met Thembi as a shy college student who came to play at one of our Open Mic events in the mid 2010's. She absolutely blew us away, even then, and has subsequently developed into one of Cape Town's best kept secrets.
Thembi released her first album Intyatyambo in 2020. Intyatyambo received two Mzantsi Jazz Awards for Best Song and Best Female in Jazz. Her second
album God Bless iKapa, God Bless Mzantsi., was recorded and released under Africa Arise in 2024, and in 2025 won her Best Contemporary Jazz Album at the 9th Mzantsi Jazz awards. Some of Thembi’s most notable performances include playing at Jazz at the Lincoln Center in 2023 and 2025 (Dizzy’s jazz club) - both in New York, The Birds Eye in Basel, Switzerland as well as performing at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in 2025.
Currently Thembi also teaches at Open Studio (an online jazz learning company) and is also known for her jazz piano tutorial videos on YouTube.
