# Event Details - **Event Name**: Mixed media art classes Southern Suburbs Cape Town - **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 08 Aug, 2025 at 10:00 am – Fri, 08 Aug, 2025 at 01:00 pm - **Event Description**: You are invited to join us for another 'mischievous apprenticeship in creativity!' These Friday morning mixed media workshops explore various art techniques with some zig-zagging detours in search of your creative core. This term we are going down a bit of a Chine collé rabbit hole! You're going to do what? Chine collé! Chine (China in French because the papers for the technique were originally imported from there) and Collé (the French word for "glued.")... This print technique is the perfect way to add colour to prints without having to go through a reduction process (whew)...it can also be used with a variety of different sorts of relief blocks, of which we will be making our own! From simple to not so simple. We will also be preparing and experimenting with different marks on prepared tissue papers... As with most of the meanders at St Catherine Studio, we are going to EXPLORE and PLAY with this technique and see where we end up. Each student will be guided to engage with the process in their own unique way. Total beginners welcome! Dates: As usual...Roughly following the school terms, this term will run from the 8thth of August to 10th of October (10 weeks). Time: 10am – 1pm Venue: 8 St. Catherine Road, Plumstead (off Doordrift road) Cost: R3500 per term (payable in 2 installments of R1750 if using your own materials or 2 installments of R2000 if using studio materials. About your facilitator: Vicki Penfold is an artist and art teacher. Best known for her bold captivating oils and quirky mixed media pieces. Her subjects often hint at a private cosmology inhabited by creatures. Inspiration for her work stems from a deep connection and love for nature and the creatures which inhabit a place of magic. Born in Zimbabwe, Vicki spent her formative years roaming unpopulated wild spaces where her imagination co-opted birds and beasts into fantastical endeavours. Her work challenges one to reconnect with this intimate and beautiful space. To stop, to listen, to suspend time, even if for a fleeting moment. Her art classes invite participants to 'give themselves permission to play' whilst exploring various techniques. She hosts both oil painting and mixed media classes from her home studio @St Catherine Studio. When not behind the easel, Victoria can be found pottering in her permaculture garden, conjuring up a tongue-scorching chilli sauce or running after a wayward chicken. She also holds bi-annual art retreats in the South of France on an organic estate.
