More on the Genre:
With roots that stem from Country, Blues and Bluegrass, Americana is a broad, but defined term where the the defining feature is the quality of the song. Musical dynamics, instrumental prowess, and the ability to sing are accepted norms within the genre, with the artist's ability to express emotion and draw the listener along a vivid journey being the yardstick by which good is judged.
These two are up and coming masters of the art. Don't miss out on the new breed of Singer Songwriter - you heard them here first!
More on Hugo:
After his 2019 debut, in only 5 years of performing, writing, and touring, Hugo Veldsman has solidified himself within the Folk and Roots scene of Southern Africa. He has shared the stage with some of the country’s top musical exports and his lap steel guitar has become a defining and quintessential feature of his performances and creative output,. HIs deep love and reverence for Americana and Blues is writ large and woven through all of his music.
His style is further rooted with his “alternative folk” songwriting, heavily influenced by his finger picking technique from training as a classical guitarist at the Stellenbosch Conservatorium. Hugo Veldsman and his band have captured audiences (big and small) with soft worded songs of hope and meaning to rompin’ stompin’ blues straight out of a Mississippi bayou.
More on Daniel:
Originally from São Paulo and based in Florianópolis for over 25 years, musician Daniel Arena has built a solid and authentic path in the independent music scene.
Blending folk, roots rock, and acoustic music, his songs—written in both Portuguese and English— reveal a sensitive, skilled artist deeply connected to nature and human emotion. A versatile instrumentalist, Daniel plays acoustic guitar, 12-string guitar, and his favorite instrument: the Weissenborn, an acoustic lap steel guitar popularized by Ben Harper. His sound draws clear influence from artists such as John Butler Trio, José González, Nick Drake, Alexi Murdoch, and of course, Ben Harper himself.
With three albums and several EPs released—including instrumental tracks—Daniel Arena has surpassed 500,000 streams on Spotify, gaining listeners both in Brazil and abroad. His work has taken him on three international tours through Argentina, with standout performances at Sofar Sounds, Open Folk Buenos Aires, and Open Folk Chapa. In Brazil, he has performed at major events such as Maratona Cultural de Florianópolis, Semana do Rock Catarinense, and Picnic Itapema.
His engaging sound, ability to create an intimate atmosphere, and the heartfelt messages contained with his lyrics, Daniel Arena continues to establish himself as one of the most authentic voices in the Brazilian folk and acoustic scene.
