This is a 10.5 mile walk starting from the charming village of Chilham, which visits the strangely named, Old Wives Lees. Our route meets the beautiful Great Stour at times, as well as emerging from quiet woodland to extensive valley views. There are some steepish climbs and descents, but nothing too troublesome for the reasonably fit walker.
Heading north out of Chilham along the North Downs Way on Long Hill, it is a tarmac plod towards Old Wives Lees. We then head across fields, open countryside and farmland, before crossing the busy A28, then railway, before passing alongside Chilham Lake. We pass through Church Wood and Down Wood, before eventually arriving at the wonderfully named Penny Pot Lane, close to Upper Thruxted Farm.
We join the Stour Valley Walk, as we drop down to Godmersham, crossing the main road to join a drive to Godmersham Park. After crossing the Stour, we climb once more to reach the edge of King's Wood, to join again the North Downs Way and back to Chilham along Mountain Street.
As usual, there will be a short picnic stop en route, whilst the Woolpack is the the favourite choice of the walk leader, for those who wish to also enjoy a post walk drink.
