# Event Details - **Event Name**: Nature In Post: Two-Day Editing Retreat in Canmore, AB - **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 14 Nov, 2026 at 12:00 pm – Sun, 15 Nov, 2026 at 05:00 pm (-06:00) - **Event Description**: Join Nikon Canada Ambassador Monika Deviat in the beautiful mountain town of Canmore for a nature photography editing retreat!About this Event3 Spots Left!Editing is a creative process that photographers can use to convey a mood or feeling, emphasize a subject or story, or give an image artistic styling. Post-processing has always been a part of photography - dodging and burning were darkroom techniques used on film. Ansel Adams is often referenced regarding editing. He could spend hours in the darkroom working on his images, and is famously quoted, “The negative is comparable to the composer’s score and the print to its performance. Each Performance differs in subtle ways.”This retreat will not only help you with editing techniques, but also in understanding how you can show your vision and artistic eye in your images. We’re going to discuss tools in Lightroom and Photoshop, but we’re also going to consider the why and how to best apply them. Photography is subjective and uniquely experienced and viewed by each person, which is part of what makes it a wonderful art form! The weekend is not just about editing demos, it's also about working through your own images as we go over tools and ideas with the ability to get instant feedback and answers to questions. We'll be using the group setting for creative exchange, to get inspired by different perspectives and take advantage of collaboration.*This workshop is for all levels of photographer, but participants should know how to import photos into lightroom or their software of choice already.*Registered participants will receive a pre-workshop survey and will be able to submit questions ahead of time so topics can be tailored to the group.Cost: 650 CAD + GST & FeesMax Group Size: 12 https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events2/banners/fc6ebf00-bfb8-11f1-b7bb-7f2ea2efbfad-rimg-w1109-h740-dc080808-gmir.jpg What's the Outline:Saturday Classroom Day 12-6pmWelcome and LunchShort presentation on editing: how to direct the eye, determine the mood or feel, what story to tell, decide what to accentuate or make more subtle, etc.Lightroom Focus:Lightroom Overview & Key FunctionsGlobal AdjustmentsLocal AdjustmentsMaskingAdding, Subtracting, and Intersecting MasksPanoramasHDR MergeIncludes time to edit your own photos and get feedbackGroup Dinner - OptionalSundaySunrise at a location near the Town of BanffClassroom 11am-5pmPrivate Breakfast BuffetTime to review images from the morning and edit/or work on other selected imagesPhotoshop - Monika’s Essentials including Selective Editing, Masking, Blending, Focus Stacking https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events1/banners/fc9f1dd0-bfb8-11f1-b7bb-7f2ea2efbfad-rimg-w1110-h740-dc384828-gmir.jpg Included in the WorkshopPlated lunch on SaturdayBreakfast Buffet on SundayCoffee and snacks midday each dayClassroom instructionIn-the-field sunrise session on SundayNot Included in the WorkshopAccomodationsTransportationDinner on Saturday https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events3/banners/fcd37440-bfb8-11f1-b7bb-7f2ea2efbfad-rimg-w1110-h740-dc080808-gmir.jpg Terms and Conditions:By registering for this event you agree that you have read and understand the following.Registration is non-refundable but is transferable. Her teaching and training experience goes back over fifteen years, from tutoring and speaking at scientific conferences and seminars to group fitness classes and, in recent years, photography workshops. Her goal as a photography instructor is to ensure clients improve skills, learn some new ones, and that they walk away with enthusiasm to continue practicing and getting out to shoot.Whether you are new to photography or experienced in any genre, Monika will ensure you have an excellent time shooting and learning.\"Monika is obviously a great photographer who takes pride in the moments that she creates. What is not so obvious, and more importantly in my opinion, is that she enjoys educating people and is a great person. I have had the pleasure of taking a night photography editing course taught by her and have been in attendance for one of her night photography seminars. The passion that she has for the art of photography definitely shows through. In her course, she takes the time to teach. When she helps, she will give you her undivided attention at making sure you succeed in what you are trying to do. If you do not understand something that she presents, she will patiently ensure that what she is trying to convey makes sense to you.Furthermore, she enjoys sharing information and this is evidenced by her personal blog and other articles that she has published. These are the traits of someone who truly enjoys teaching about their craft.I can say that in the past years that I have known her, she is a pleasure to be around because she not only remembers people but takes the time to actually talk. If you have an opportunity to learn from her, either by taking a course, listening to her talk, or hiring her as either as an instructor or as a photographer, please do so. You will have no regrets.\"Bryan Mah Calgary, Alberta" } ] } ] ```
