This event is brought to you by artsPlace and Frankie D's
Generously sponsored by the Banff Canmore Foundation.
An evening of exploration, creativity, conversation and tasty treats.
You don’t need to be “good” at art or consider yourself “creative.”
Together we’ll explore how art can help us process messy feelings, quiet our minds, and find new ways to heal.
This gathering invites you into a gentle, hands-on exploration of how creativity supports mental health and connection. Guided by art therapy principles, we’ll look at how art helps us express what words can’t always reach, from the parts of ourselves we show to the world to the emotions we keep tucked away.
Through creative activities we’ll explore:
How both sides of the brain work together in the creative process
What gets in the way of creativity (like the myth of “I’m not artistic”)
How art can become a personal tool for self-care and emotional release
You don’t need any experience, just curiosity and an open heart. come for meaningful conversation, gentle art activities, and connection with others who understand what it’s like to be in the thick of it.
Donuts and drinks will be available throughout the evening.
Who Is This For?
this event is for anyone in the bow valley community who’s curious about using creativity as part of their mental health journey. you might:
feel disconnected, lonely, or emotionally stuck
want to explore creative outlets without pressure to be “good” at them
be looking for new ways to manage stress, anxiety, or depression
just want to meet others who are also figuring out how to care for themselves
no art experience required. no expectations. just come as you are.
What to Expect
the evening will start with a short welcome and grounding activity, followed by a few creative exercises to help you connect with your body and emotions. activities will include:
a playful warm-up to shake off self-consciousness
a guided activity and reflection exploring what we show the world vs. what we hold inside
group conversation about art, expression, and healing
you are welcome to participate in any way that feels comfortable… create, listen, share, or simply be present.
Why This is a conversation that matters
many of us were taught that creativity is about skill… being good at drawing, painting, or making something perfect. but creativity is also how we process, connect, and make meaning. this gathering reminds us that art is for everyone. it’s not about performance — it’s about presence.
when we create together, we give shape to the things we can’t always say. we make space for healing, understanding, and community care… one doodle and one donut at a time.
