The event forms part of a broader research initiative examining recording workplaces, studio cultures, and inclusive approaches to music production.The 2-day workshop is hosted and led by Professor Samantha Bennett (ANU), Dr Pat O’Grady (ANU), Dr Lachlan Goold (University of the Sunshine Coast), and Mr Will Kepa (ANU). Our program features discussions and music production sessions with recording and production practitioners from around the country, to include: Muruwari researcher Roy Barker Jr (ANU), Gubbi Gubbi Narungga/Adnyamamathanha composer producer, Uncle Kevin Starkey (Darkwood Studios / Elder in Residence at Queensland Music), Yuin PhD candidate in Indigenous sonic and spatial practice, Hayden Ryan (RMIT University), Gimuy singer songwriter Yirghjilya Lawrie, Naarm-based music producer, Dr Lilith Lane, and Gadigal-based singer songwriter, Dr Jacqueline Amidy.The program will feature paper presentations, interviews, and open-format discussions exploring the politics of recording praxis – drawing on experiential knowledge, academic perspectives, and forward-looking approaches to studio practice.
