Sent from the past to reissue a cautionary tale, Hear My Eyes brings you the action sci-fi blockbuster, Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Visionary producer Hudson Mohawke and local laser maestro Robin Fox come together to redux the World’s most famous sequel in a new moment dominated by the question of humanity’s place in a technological future.

As we stand on the precipice of the final technological cliff , with AI increasingly occupying the quotidian plane, James Cameron’s breakout film is a piece of cinema so entertaining that its prescience can be overlooked. Beneath the film’s high NRG action run deeper themes, its brilliance stemming from the simple: the machine that is indistinguishable from a man.

When super-computer Skynet attains consciousness, like any sentient being, it moves to secure its survival, and humans in turn forfeit their humanity in acts of destruction. Machines in flesh attire and humans with steely innards question the inalienable ingredients of humanity itself. On soundtrack duties for this Hear My Eyes event is the Belgian techno architect, Peter Van Hoesen. A master of cerebral, bass-heavy electronic music, Van Hoesen’s hardware-driven live performances create immersive sonic landscapes that blur the boundaries between human intuition and machine precision. His approach—rooted in deep psychedelic textures and evolving rhythmic patterns—captures the essence of the human/machine dialogue at the heart of Terminator 2. With over three decades of electronic music mastery, from his revered Tresor Berlin residency to his Time To Express label, Van Hoesen brings an uncompromising artistic vision that transforms dancefl oors into spaces of collective transcendence. For this special performance, Van Hoesen will be joined by the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) Synthesiser Orchestra, transforming his typically solo live set into an expansive ensemble piece. This collaboration sees Van Hoesen conducting and performing alongside MESS’s collection of rare vintage synthesizers and modular systems, creating a unique fusion where his precision sonics meets the raw, unpredictable character of analog machinery.

Rounding out this redolent reformulation is hometown polymath, Robin Fox. Producer and synth lord in his own right, Fox is now increasingly sought after for his artistry in binding the visual and aural with his use of the ephemeral. What better medium to stitch and enrich Cameron’s sci-fi and Hudmo’s sonics than intricately programmed lasers for the all-in Terminator 2 experience?
