Justice Ian G. Harrison was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in February 2007. His Honour was educated at Normanhurst Boys’ High School 1963-1967 and Bozeman Senior High School, Bozeman, Montana 1967-68. Attended University of Sydney 1969-1974. Awarded Bachelor of Arts in 1971 and Bachelor of Laws in 1974.
His Honour was called to the Bar in 1977 and was appointed Senior Counsel in November 1995.
Prior to being appointed to the Court, his Honour served as President of the Australian Bar Association in 2004 and President of The New South Wales Bar Association from 2003 to 2005.
As a Judge of the Supreme Court his Honour has a particular interest in sentencing and the ways in which alternatives to imprisonment can be formulated to meet the interests of justice. He was appointed Chief Judge at Common Law and a Judge of Appeal on 9 November 2023.
