She graduated as a dentist in 2001 from The University of Seville, where she completed her postgraduate training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics in 2006. After finishing her orthodontic studies, she moved to Scotland where she worked for 10 and a half years for the National Health Service as an orthodontist. While she was living in the UK, she also presented her PhD research in Spain about rapid maxillary expansion in 2014. Meli moved to Sydney in 2018 and started working as a full time lecturer in Orthodontics at The University of Sydney in 2019.
