Our first meeting!!! ⚰️🪦☕️🫖🍰🧁
Hi friends!
The Campbell River Death Cafe is excited to announce or first meeting with be on Sunday, March 8th at 3:00pm in Campbell River United Church!
Add it to your calendars, I can’t wait to meet all of you!
⚠️NOTE: This is NOT a religious group, and has nothing to do with religion.
The building is simply a generously offered meeting space, so please don’t let yourself be swayed to not attend by the nature of the location if you’re interested in Death Cafe. ⚠️
Now, what are we?
https://deathcafe.com/what/
“At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death.
Our objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'.
A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.
Our Death Cafes are always offered:
- On a not for profit basis”
(but donations are accepted, and go directly back into funding the cafe)
“- In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action”
(Religion, one way of thinking about death, dying, loss, and grief will not be pushed on you)
- Alongside refreshing drinks and nourishing food – and cake!”
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS- Please read.
⚠️Despite its name and the fact we offer refreshments, this is not an actual “cafe”, as some have mistakenly assumed.
That is simply a name, and not one I personally gave to it, as Death Cafes exist all over the world; (“Death Cafes have spread quickly across Europe, North America and Australasia. As of today, we have offered 22907 Death Cafes in 97 countries since September 2011. If 10 people came to each one that would be 229070 participants. We've established both that there are people who are keen to talk about death and that many are passionate enough to organize their own Death Cafe.”)⚠️
⚠️All refreshments are free of charge for those who wish to stay and participate- if you attempt to come in, grab food, and leave, you will be escorted out. ⚠️
⚠️Violence or abusive language will not be tolerated, and these events are not for people who cannot talk about death, dying, grief, and loss openly.
Even if you are uncomfortable, I encourage you to attend anyway if interested and see where the evening takes you.
We will have someone standing by who is qualified to talk to you one on one if you get overwhelmed with the discussion, but if you think there’s a good chance you can’t handle it (I don’t mean crying, I mean lashing out) then please don’t attend. ⚠️
Lastly,
⚠️If you show up under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will be asked to leave.⚠️
