* Participate in the lesson preceding the social dance, as it helps us connect with each other and drop in to a cohesive collective space in which to launch into social exploration & expression for the rest of the evening! You'll learn something new in movement, be invited to connect with many different partners, and start to build familiarity, which fosters trust with each other and yourself. This is how our dance scene continues to root and blossom!

* Bring dancing shoes, whatever is comfortable for you! The Barn is an unfinished wood floor, so there can be an occasional splinter in a bare foot or tear in a sock - and still, people still choose to do that, sometimes.

CLASS
"Creative Connection Lab"
Creative Connection Lab is a playful and exploratory lab that combines techniques from contact improv and Brazilian Zouk to explore how we can create new movements and play within the structures we already know. This class is intended for movers of all levels. Grounded in curiosity, we'll investigate how to use partner connection, personal creative expression, and the natural language of the body to co-create dance.
TEACHERS
Léo Gomes - Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Léo started his dance journey at 8 years old with ballet and jazz. He has been studying and performing partner dances for 20 years. Léo started to teach Brazilian Dances and Samba de Gafieira in 2009, under the Jimmy de Oliveira Dance Academy. He trained in movement analysis and movement science from 2008 to 2010. In 2013, he began to train and teach at Renata Peçanha’s Dance company. Léo is a 2-time Zouk Lambada World Champion (2016 and 2017) and Brasil Latin Open Champion (2017). He also holds the prestigious honor of participating as instructor and choreographer of the show Dancing with the Stars Brazil in 2021.
Anna Onstad-Hargrave - Anna began her dance journey in 2019. She has trained intensively with Léo for several years, as well as other top international teachers. As a teacher, she prioritizes natural body movements, comfort, and curious exploration in dance.
DJ's:
Amber Rivera - Amber discovered her passion for DJing back in 2018. She was instantly hooked since day one, and continues to enjoy sharing her music. Amber loves to include a variety of genres in her setlist, and enjoys bringing different vibes into the mix, such as slow/sultry and upbeat/fun.
Kenny Smestad - Kenny is a long-time Fusion dancer, grooving to a wide mix of music throughout the years. With a rich collection of classic fusion tracks and some of the latest R&B dance hits, rhythm plays a key role with song selection. He enjoys providing dancers with tunes that offer creativity and fun to encourage them to move across the floor. Currently, he's lured by the sounds of Afro R&B, Zouk, and modern takes on spicy latin beats.

We’re honored to be hosted by Green Valley Village, where our dance floor is located in a beautiful converted barn, surrounded by redwoods and that magical West County feel! We also love our partnership with Soft Medicine in downtown Sebastopol where we come together in their beautiful upstairs Dance Temple. We are based out of Sebastopol, CA and aim to connect partner dancers in Sonoma County, CA and beyond.

We are committed to growing, harmonizing, and exchanging ideas in connective movement. We invite you to cultivate your skills in communication, consent, nonverbal cues, and partnered dance movement and will be offering support via lessons before events - our own, and before other dances in the Sonoma County, CA region.
