Camden Public Library welcomes writer Gary Chapin for a musical reading of his poetry chapbook, The Last Accordion He Will Every Buy. Chapin will intersperse his poetry with accordion, accompanied by Steve Gruverman on bass clarinet.
The Last Accordion He Will Ever Buy is a collection of poems looking at memory, dream, and the importance of unattainable aspirations. It is full of rhythm, humor, noise, and, of course, accordions.
Gary and Steve have been playing music together for 25 years. They are co-founders of the French music trio, Le Bon Truc (along with dulcimerist, Barb Truex) which has been performing around Maine since 2011.
This event takes place on Thursday, December 4 at 6:30 PM in the Picker Room. Light, cozy refreshments will be served.
Gary Chapin lives in Maine and began writing in performing poetry while in college in New Brunswick, NJ, in the late '80s. After moving to Arkansas, he helped found the Ozarks Poets and Writers Collective in Fayetteville, with Ginny Jackson and Brenda Moossy. Over the last five years he has published in online journals, including The Ekphrastic Review, Scrittura, Carness, MuddyUm, Interstitial, Dead or Alive, and Contemplate. He also appeared in anthologies including Wouldn't You Rather Be Laughing and I Am From. A high point in his career was reading at the Knitting Factory, NYC, back when it was found on Houston St. Gary also plays accordion and has five cats.
