Join historian and author John Muller, an internationally recognized scholar on Frederick Douglass and the lost and unknown history on the Eastern Shore, for a special walking tour, "Frederick Douglass in Cambridge," which will share the importance of two visits Dr. Douglass made to Cambridge in 1877 and 1878.The tour will begin at Long Wharf, where Douglass arrived in Cambridge, and proceed up High Street past the Courthouse and Christ Episcopal Church. Stopping at Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church and then proceeding down Pine Street to Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where Douglass addressed a multi-racial gathering including members of the Lloyd family, the tour will interweave the local history of Bishop John Fletcher Hurst, Professor John Mercer Langston, Governor Henry Lloyd, Rev. Henry Augustus Monroe and others.The tour will conclude on Race Street at the BLACK LIVES MATTER mural on the 400 block of Race Street, which includes the images of Frederick (Bailey) Douglass. **SPECIAL NOTE**Tour goers are encouraged to explore downtown Cambridge following the tour and get lunch at a nearby eatery on the adjacent Race Street and visit the new Harriet Tubman Mural that has been featured on international news.----John Muller, author of Frederick Douglass in Washington, D.C.: The Lion of Anacostia (2012) and Mark Twain in Washington, D.C.: The Adventures of a Capital Correspondent (2013) has been a local reporter in Old Anacostia and adjacent communities for the past decade for a variety of print and online publications. He has covered the Eastern Shore as a special correspondent for .Muller has presented widely throughout the DC-Baltimore metropolitan area at venues including the Library of Congress, Newseum, Politics and Prose, American Library in Paris and local universities.
