Vance Provey is a Connecticut-based trumpeter and improviser who began trumpet lessons at age 12. His musical journey took a significant turn when he joined the Black Music Division at Bennington College in 1981, teaching alongside Bill Dixon, a pivotal influence on his artistic development. In the 1980s, Provey collaborated with notable figures such as Butch Morris, Rhys Chatham, and Borah Bergman. He also performed with the Gunter Hampel New York Orchestra, contributing to the album Fresh Heat – Live at Sweet Basil. Vance’s discography includes 2020’s Collective Expression (with Bob Gorry and Paul Gunsberg) and 1983 – Motifs 2023 (with Whit Dickey and Spin Dunbar). He has worked extensively with the band New Language Collaborative, and with projects led by multi-instrumentalist David Peck, and released on the Evil Clown label.

Eric Green Zinman, born in 1963, began the study of piano and voice as a child, and developed interest in classical music, broadway, rock ’n’ roll, and r&b. As a teenager he discovered black music and modified his approach in jazz, blues, gospel, and the music of strip clubs. Later he studied composition with Bill Dixon, George Russell, and Jimmy Guiffre. Beginning in 1987 he produced ensembles with Laurence Cook, Craig Schildhauer, John Voigt, Syd Smart, and Glynis Lomon. In the mid 2000s he began to tour Europe with Mario Rechtern and later Linda Sharrock, and played with post rock greats like drummer Weasel Walter and noise guitarist Sheik Anorak. His activity has been heard in theater, dance, film and poetry. As he is fond of saying, “music is two souls rubbing together.” He believes music is an essential part of the human story. Since 2000 he has recorded 18 albums and has been reviewed in 9 languages. Eric Zinman is listed in the 9th Edition of the Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings.

Scott Samenfeld is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator active in the Boston area since the 1970s. In High School he took weekly lessons on piano, guitar, and upright bass, while studying theory and composition, and has since added oboe, electric recorder, and percussion. Inspired by classmate David S. Ware, he recorded a piece called “Blue Light for the Wizard”, a 45-minute avant-garde piece that spanned both sides of an LP. In the 70s he studied at the Berklee School of Music, and Razzmatazz, and Trillium, a jazz power trio. In the 80s Scott joined the 17-piece Sounds of Swing Orchestra, with whom he still performs.

John Loggia is a musician and multi-disciplinary artist whose work includes film, painting, and education. John studied at the Kruppa Cole School of Drumming and his interest in experimental music began while in high school in New York City in the seventies while attending jazz, free jazz, punk rock, and contemporary symphonic music performances. His film credits include Vortex (starring Lydia Lunch), and Parting Glances (with Steve Buscemi); in 2021 he helped produce Fire Music, a documentary on free jazz that can be seen on the Criterion Channel. John has played with many great musicians including Daniel Carter, Jeff Lederer, Stephen Gauci, Bonnie Kane, Paul Austerlitz, Sandy Ewen, Blaise Siwula, Stephen Haynes, Eric Zinman, and Vance Provey. John continues to play, paint and ruminate while running the arts and educational venue 118 Elliot in Brattleboro Vermont.
