In conversation with Barnabás Szabó, Post-doctoral Research Associate at the CfG, Ambassador Kumin will reflect on the craft of diplomacy and offer his insights into Hungary’s approaches to foreign and trade policy, strategy and national security amidst current geopolitical challenges, addressing themes such as migration, Transatlantic relations and Hungary’s role within NATO. The event invites participants to deepen their understanding of the strategic challenges and opportunities shaping Europe and the world beyond. Join us for what is sure to be an illuminating and thought-provoking exchange.About the speaker:Ferenc Kumin is an economist, political scientist and international relations expert. He holds master’s degrees from Corvinus University of Budapest and Central European University and earned his PhD at Corvinus. He began his career as a political analyst in 2002, alongside guest lecturing roles at several Hungarian institutions, including Corvinus University, Pázmány Péter Catholic University and Mathias Corvinus Collegium. In 2006, he became Head of Department at the Office of the President of the Republic, overseeing communications and strategic planning for President László Sólyom. He later served as Deputy State Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Consul General of Hungary in New York (2014–2018), and Deputy State Secretary for European and North American Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Since May 2020, he has been Hungary’s Ambassador to the Court of St James’s.
