- **Event Description**: Winner, Short Film Category, New York Short Cinema Awards; Winner, Best Animated Short, Columbus International Film & Animation Festival '25About this EventHuman Movie raises an existential set of questions about how we define humanity in the age of AI, and what AI can tell us about ourselves.Human Movie: Six Meditations on a Compression Algorithm; Eryk SalvaggioAn award-winning 35-minute lecture-performance contrasting computational processes of AI with the human metaphors used to describe them. Created from glitched AI-generated video, archival and found footage and narrated in-the-moment by the artist himself, Human Movie is informed by the artist’s technical understanding of the role of visual noise in AI systems. It aims to raise thoughtful questions about how we imagine ourselves and how we project this imagination onto machines. What lurks beneath the surface of this impulse? The presentation concludes what is often a lively discussion with the audience. Winner, Short Film Category, New York Short Cinema Awards; Winner, Best Animated Short, Columbus International Film & Animation Festival, 2025.At a moment when artificial intelligence is transforming how images, information, and decisions are produced, the series asks what forms of human perception, judgement, and interpretive agency remain essential, and how they are developed, recognised, and sustained within education, culture, and industry. The Cambridge Lectures on Art and Intelligence are rooted in the ideas that underpin David Hockney’s sustained inquiry into perception, perspective, and the cultural power of images. Across his work and writing, David Hockney has consistently challenged the assumption that there is a single, neutral way of seeing, arguing instead that technologies of vision, from painting and photography to film, television, and now digital systems, actively shape how reality is understood, shared, and governed. The Cambridge Lectures on Art & Intelligence extends this inquiry into a wider public conversation at a time when the continued public presence of his work will form a major exhibition at the Serpentine North. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events9/banners/6d8a3710-011d-11f1-9f54-dfa1d1aacd36-rimg-w822-h740-dcd6d5d1-gmir.jpg Eryk Salvaggio is a blend of hacker, artist, curator, and technology researcher: a Gates Scholar researching AI and the humanities at the University of Cambridge and an Affiliated Researcher in the Machine Visual Culture Research Group at the Max Planck Institute, Rome. Working intentionally with the technology he critiques, his award-winning films made "with and against AI" have been screened on five continents. He has given talks at the Centre Pompidou (Paris), The Photographer's Gallery (London), the SXSW Festival (Austin), and many more. He writes at cyberneticforests.com. Rather than positioning art as illustration or enrichment, The Cambridge Lecture Series on Art and Intelligence treats visual culture as a serious cognitive and social force, one that shapes how societies organise knowledge, authority, and innovation. It reflects a shared concern between MODO and ACE CIC that as systems become more automated, forms of human thinking rooted in perception, interpretation, and judgement must not be marginalised. The Cambridge Lectures on Art & Intelligence is conceived as a multi-year public inquiry, with the series planned to continue over the next three to five years. Future programmes are expected to bring together a broad range of contributors spanning education leadership, research, cultural practice, and applied fields, building a sustained conversation rather than a one-off event. The lectures are not framed as a debate about technology. Instead, they offer an inquiry into how human intelligence has evolved through changing image systems, and how it might continue to do so under conditions of rapid technological change. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events9/banners/6da53920-011d-11f1-9f54-dfa1d1aacd36-rimg-w555-h740-dca3988d-gmir.jpg MODO, is the independent Cambridge gallery that specialises solely in the work of David Hockney, we have announced the launch of The Cambridge Lectures on Art & Intelligence, a new public lecture series developed in collaboration with Art and Culture Education CIC (ACE CIC).Ticket sales from the series support ACE CIC, a not for profit organisation working to address the systemic marginalisation of the arts within education, and to strengthen the conditions in which inventive and expansive thinking can develop. The lectures will take place again in Cambridge in 2027, with further programmes relating to the NOW! "description": "Independent Cambridge GalleryMODO | PresentsLandmarkDavid Hockney Exhibition Until 2026While London prepares to showcaseDavid Hockney’s A Year in Normandy at the Serpentine, Cambridge has quietly established itself as home to theUK’s only permanent Hockney gallery. MODO, an independent, three-storey gallery dedicated entirely to Britain’s most celebrated living artist, is presenting a major exhibition that will run until 2026.At the centre of the exhibition is a 17-metre frieze of Hockney’s Normandy iPad images, displayed alongside a 15-metre print of the Bayeux Tapestry – the historic work that inspired Hockney’s sweeping depiction of the seasons. Visitors are invited to walk both pieces in parallel, experiencing a dialogue between medieval and modern storytelling. The exhibition also includes an immersive media room featuring Hockney’s moon images, together with a wide-ranging selection of original works, prints, iPad drawings, and limited editions across all three floors of the gallery.Exhibition dates: A Year in Normandy - NOW open, running until 2026END BOSSINESS SOON(Student exhibition) will run from 29th November - 3rd December 2025 (along side the A Year in Normandy Exhibition)Location: MODO Gallery, CambridgePlease follow us on Instagram@nowmodo@ace_c.i.cMODO’sconnection to this period in Hockney’s career is rooted in memory as well as exhibition. One Sunday afternoon in London, over champagne and conversation, Hockney spoke of his wish to create his own “Bayeux Tapestry of the arrival of spring” before leaving for Normandy. That vision later became A Year in Normandy, which now resonates withinMODO’sexhibition alongside the tapestry that first inspired it.In addition to its exhibition programme,MODOis proud to work in partnership withArt and Culture Education CIC(ACE CIC). Together, the organisations are committed to ensuring that galleries engage not only with collectors, but with young people, schools, and local communities. By opening doors to the arts, they aim to challenge systemic barriers and show that creativity is central to society’s future.“As an independent gallery, our mission is to make Hockney’s vision permanently accessible here in Cambridge,” said Sally Clark, Director and Curator ofMODO. “Partnerships with organisations like ACE CIC are vital. If we want the next generation of innovators to drive both culture and the economy forward, the arts must be part of their world from the beginning.”ACE CIC advocates for a rebalancing of the education system, recognising that industries of the future will depend on creative thinkers as much as scientists and engineers. By linking galleries, schools, and communities, the organisation works to ensure that art remains a driver of social progress, cultural legitimacy, and economic growth. With international capitals staging temporary shows,MODOstands apart as a permanent destination to engage with Hockney’s work. The exhibition confirms Cambridge as a vital point on the global cultural map, while also contributing to the wider mission of ensuring that art education, access, and innovation remain at the centre of our collective future.DAVID HOCKNEYis one of the most influential British artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, renowned for his pioneering contributions to contemporary art. A key figure in the Pop Art movement of the 1960s, Hockney has continually redefined artistic practice through his bold experimentation and innovative approach.Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, stage design, and digital media, Hockney demonstrates an unrelenting curiosity that transcends traditional boundaries. His vivid depictions of Californian landscapes, radical explorations of perspective, and embracing of cutting-edge technologies such as iPad drawings and digital photography reflect his ever-evolving artistic vision. By challenging conventions and reimagining the possibilities of visual expression, Hockney has cemented his place as a revolutionary force in modern and contemporary art.Hockney’s work is a reminder that creativity thrives when given the freedom and resources to evolve, somethingMODOstrive to support through our programming and partnership withACEC.I.C."
