Evenings of Art: Intergenerational Tatreez (Palestinian Embroidery) 🧵
Step into the rich, living tradition of Palestinian tatreez, an embroidery art form passed down through generations of women as a way of preserving history, identity, and belonging. Each stitch carries meaning—marking place, memory, and the stories of families who carried this craft across time and borders.
In this special intergenerational workshop, join me and my mother as we share tatreez techniques passed down in our own family. Participants will learn foundational stitches and motifs, choose from two tatreez design options, and work toward creating a piece meant to be preserved and framed, all while hearing the cultural and family stories behind the patterns.
This session is an invitation to slow down, work with your hands, and connect—across generations, cultures, and experiences—through the meditative and communal act of stitching.
What to Expect:
🧵 A short introduction to the history and global influence of Palestinian tatreez
🪡 Hands-on guidance with traditional stitches (no experience needed!)
🎁 A take-home tatreez kit with materials to continue stitching after the workshop
🖼️ Create one of two design options for your embroidered piece
🍵 Snacks and refreshments to enjoy throughout the evening
🛍️ Optional opportunity to purchase ready-made tatreez pieces
🎶 A warm, cozy community space for storytelling and connection
By the end of the evening, you’ll leave with your embroidered work in progress, a deeper connection to this art form, and the tools to continue your stitching journey.
