- **Event Name**: Flow Cytometry Courses - March 2027
- **Event Start and End Date**: Mon, 15 Mar, 2027 at 09:00 am – Fri, 19 Mar, 2027 at 05:00 pm (+00:00)
- **Event Description**: Week of flow cytometry courses aimed at both beginners & for those whom flow cytometry is a main tool. Can be taken as individual or a blockAbout this EventCourses can be taken as individual course or a block.Monday 15th March - Introduction to Flow Cytometry: The Foundation Block is aimed at those new to flow cytometry and those wanting to understand the basics of the technology before attending further Building Blocks. This can be taken as a standalone one day course or can be taken as a building block for the next courses. The course starts with an introduction to this quickly evolving technology, its importance and resources that are available. One of the main aims of this course is to give the delegate a firm understanding of fluorescence, fluorochromes and the workings of a cytometer. This is followed by talks on fluorescence compensation, sample preparation, basics of experimental design, data analysis and reporting your flow cytometry data.Tuesday 16th March- Advanced Flow Cytometry: This interactive course builds on the Introductory course and goes into greater details on how a cytometer works, best practices for running cytometry experiments, experimental design, panel design, compensation and data spreading and presentation of data. As cytometers become capable of measuring an increasing number of fluorochromes, experimental design becomes more complicated. It requires knowledge of the fluorochrome, the biology (antigen density, co-expression) and the sample preparation as well as as a greater understanding about the cytometer. In this one-day course we will look at the factors that need to be taken into account to build multicolour panels. We will do several interactive panel designs where we will use this knowledge to design panels of 6-10 and discuss panels with larger numbers of fluorochromes.Wednesday 17th March - Practical Data Analysis: Data analysis of flow data files can be daunting. Where do I set regions and gates? Which metric do I use? In this one-day course we will guide delegates through the minefield of data analysis from simple gating to high dimensional analysis. This one-day course will introduce delegates to the analysis of flow data. We will cover the plot types, setting compensation, regions and gates, the metrics that can be derived, and data presentation. We will illustrate all these with data files that will be available to delegates.PLEASE NOTE: YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BRING A LAPTOP TO THE DATA COURSE AND PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION OF FLOWJO ON TO IT. WILL WE SEND DETAILS OF A TEMPORARY FLOWJO LICENCE TO BE USED ON THE COURSE NEARER THE TIME OF THE COURSE. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LAPTOP PLEASE LET US KNOW IN ADVANCE AND WE WILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ONE.Thursday 18th March - Practical Spectral Flow Cytometry : The Spectral Flow Cytometry Building Block is aimed at those new to Spectral flow cytometry and those wanting to understand the basics of the technology before attending further Building Blocks. This can be taken as a standalone one day course or can be taken as a building block for the next courses. The course starts with an introduction to Spectral Flow Cytometry Technologies, its importance and why it is become a key tool for scientists. This one-day course will combine theory and practical. Delegates will learn what spectral flowcytometry can bring to their experiments. We will look at how Spectral flow cytometers differ from conventional cytometers in their light detection, how this influences experimental design and some of the specific considerations of using this approach. We will run a simple experiment on spectral cytometers - the Cytek Aurora, BD FACSDiscover S8 and the Sony ID7000.Friday 19th March- Practical Imaging Cytometry : . The course can be taken as a standalone one day course or can be taken as a building block to add to your knowledge from our other flow cytometry courses. The course starts with an introduction to Imaging Cytometry, including information about many of the commercially avalaible image cytometers. There will be practicals in Babraham Institute Flow Cytometry Facility on the Thermo Attune CytPix, Cytek Amnis Imagestream MkII and BD FACSDiscover S8 spectral cell sorter with imaging capabilities. The day will will conclude with sessions on data analysis from these systems and an overview of presentation of imaging data. The in person courses includes refreshments, including lunch, morning and afternoon tea and coffee and course notes sent in advance.Discounts available:50% off for academics use the Code Academic5050% off for companies on Babraham Research Campus or use Babraham Institute Flow Facility use the code BRC5020% off for a company person booking on to multiple courses or multiple people from same company booking on to the course use the code MULTI20

"description": "BuildingCyt:  After 5 years and following the training of over 750 individual scientists from not just the UK but worldwide,  the highly successful Babraham Instiute Flow Cytometry Courses have been renewed and updated to include the most up to date information about this fast moving technology.  These new courses are now part of the 'BuildingCyt' which aims to building cytometry knowledge.\r\n \r\nFlow Cytometry has been established in research and clinical laboratories for over 30 years and is a crucial technique in many investigations. However, the appreciation of how cytometers work and how best to set up and optimise an experiment is often lacking.\r\n \r\nEstablished in 2014 these highly successful courses are designed by experts in flow cytometry and aimed at those relatively new to the field. The modular design of the courses allows delegates to build on knowledge from one course to the next, giving them the opportunity to implement ‘best practises’ and ultimately improving their flow cytometry experiments. It is recommended that delegates attend both modules.\r\n \r\n \r\nBuilding Block 1: Basics of Flow Cytometry\r\n \r\nThis course covers the fundamentals of the technology and builds up the knowledge of the delegates through a series of lectures, exercises, practical examples and interactive learning.\r\n \r\nThe learning objectives of Building Block 1 are:\r\n \r\n\r\nGain an overview of the technology and its uses. \r\nHave a understanding of how a cytometer works \r\nRecognise the need for good sample preparation\r\nUnderstand appropriate fluorochrome choice \r\nAppreciate the importance of fluorescence compensation\r\nBe able to design a simple flow cytometry experiment\r\nHave a greater understanding on how to optimise your results\r\nBe able to communicate your results to your peers\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\nDetails on future modules to follow\r\n \r\nThe flow cytometry courses at BI are interactive, lecture and exercise based courses given by experts in the field who can share their in-depth knowledge of an evolving technology.   These courses are ideal for those using Flow Cytometry in Industry and Academia   These courses have been designed to build up knowledge of flow cytometry to ensure that the delegate is confident to design, carry out, analyse and present their flow cytometry data.  \r\n \r\nTestimonials from past courses:\r\n \r\n’Brilliant course that is well designed for the beginner and as a refresher'   ‘A fantastic course which covers all of the basic elements of flow cytometry   Truly one of the most useful biology-based technical training courses I have attended’   ‘Explained a lot of things other courses have glossed over and explained them really well!.’   ‘An outstanding flow cytometry course that helped me to be much more confident to run experiments on my own.' ‘Excellent, clearly presented course from experts who use examples and share their experience with enthusiasm and patience for a varied audience’. ‘A great way to begin your understanding in flow cytometry. Friendly, approachable course tutors make it easy to get to grips with concepts which may be new to you’   ‘Module one provides a good introduction to flow cytometry. A great range of topics is covered from how cytometers work, through to presentation of data. I’m looking forward to module 2.’   ‘Very professional course led by two very enthusiastic experts.  I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about the basics of FC.’   ‘Well designed, detailed overview of many aspects of flow.  Ideal for new user who needs to start designing and quality controlling own experiment’ \r\n \r\nFor Terms and Conditions see http://www.babraham.ac.uk/science-services/flow-cytometry/flow-training"
