Connections 50+ Presents Cambridge Third Age Learning with Dr. Leia Minaker

Building healthy, prosperous, and sustainable cities in the future.

How do we have reasonable dialogue about the biggest issues facing our municipalities today? Dr. Leia Minaker, inaugural Director of the Future Cities Institute at the University of Waterloo, will talk about how the Institute is trying to shake up typical partnerships for action and impact. How do we get past the “this is how we’ve always done things” mentality, and decision making for political reasons to support healthy and prosperous cities?

What are the biggest issues facing Ontario municipalities today, how does the Institute support partners in building healthy and prosperous cities? Dr. Minaker will question some of the unquestionable truths of city building. Are safe playgrounds actually better for kids? Is public participation always good? Can we design our way into vibrant cities?

Cambridge Third Age Learning (CTAL) is a movement that encourages learning and discovery experiences for those in the 'third age'. As part of our Connections 50+ suite of programming, CTAL provides free monthly lectures in our Queen's Square location. With lecturers and topics carefully selected by our CTAL Committee, a volunteer-led group of contemporaries, the series is designed to inspire new thinking and engage inquisitive minds.
