Jubilee is a musing of the Sex Pistols' seditious cry "God Save the Queen”. Shot over six weeks in the summer of '77, the film imagines a decayed and distressed London where kink, regicide, and casual violence take centre stage. In its offensive unseriousness, Jubilee makes a joke of the British establishments and its own punk-paragons alike. As this anarchic fantasy reaches its denouement in Dorset, we are left wondering: was Jarman a poet, prankster, or prophet? Speakers:Dorothy Max Prior is a drummer, artist, writer, and ballroom dancing instructor whose books 69 Exhibition Road and Sex is No Emergency provide an insight into a life lived modelling in 1970s London, drumming for bands like Psychic TV, and more. Matthew Worley is Professor of Modern History at the University of Reading. His recent books include, No Future: Punk, Politics and British Youth Culture, 1976-1984, and Zerox Machine: Punk, Post-Punk and Fanzines in Britain, 1976-1988
