About the event

From Acorns to Oaks: Family Nature-Connection at Wallington
Unplug and reconnect as a family with a gentle woodland session of games, nature crafts and sensory activities, inviting connection and calm

About this Event

This nature-connection session is designed for families to slow down, explore together and enjoy meaningful time in nature. Aimed at children from 5+, right through to teenagers and their carers, the session offers a mix of playful activities and calming practices, helping you to step away from busy routines and reconnect with each other and the natural world.

Through nature-based games, creative crafts, sensory exploration and gentle mindfulness, the session invites you to notice more, move more slowly and rediscover a sense of wonder, together. The activities are designed to spark curiosity and connection and are always adaptable so families of all shapes, ages and abilities can join in comfortably.

Spending mindful time in nature benefits both children and adults by promoting physical and emotional wellbeing, enhancing focus, and fostering a sense of calm. It invites relaxation, eases stress and creates a safe space for meaningful connection. Alongside exploring the woodland, there will be moments of stillness and quiet reflection to help everyone feel grounded and present.

Whether you’re looking to spend more quality time outdoors, deepen your connection with one another or simply take a break in a beautiful setting, you are warmly welcome – no experience needed, just come as you are.

Ticket holders to this event will receive complimentary day access to the Wallington estate, giving you more time to explore and enjoy the beautiful surroundings before or after the session.

Location and Arrival Information

The session will take place in the beautiful woodland of the Wallington National Trust property in Northumberland.

Please meet 10 mins early at the Dragon Kiosk (number 8 on the map below).

Wallington will open at 10am if you wish to make use of your complimentary day access onto the property. We encourage you to make use of the toilet facilities before the event begins, as there may not be a chance to do this during the session. Please note, we will not be able to wait past the start time for latecomers.

What to Wear/Bring

To get the most from your experience, please wear/bring with you:

  • Plenty of warm layers of clothing that can get a little dirty (the temperature of woodlands is cooler, even in the summer, and we will be moving very slowly and entering our parasympathetic nervous system so it is easy to get cold)
  • Long sleeves and long trousers to protect against stings and bites
  • Waterproofs
  • Sturdy footwear
  • A picnic mat or groundsheet (a large bin bag will do the job if needed).
  • Other weather-related essentials (e.g. suncream, gloves, additional warm layers)

We recommend you bring these items in a backpack or similar to keep your hands free to explore!

Please note that if you do not have suitable clothing your guide may decide it is not safe for you to participate in the session.

Accessibility Note

We will likely only cover a short distance of the woodland during the session and we will be moving slowly and stopping regularly for sensory activities. You are welcome to bring a small foldable chair to use during the session if this is more suitable for you than sitting/lying on the ground. There may be some benches available along the route.

Please note that the route will likely include uneven ground, short inclines and some venturing off-path. If you, or anyone in your party, have any mobility issues, we recommend you join one of our accessible forest bathing sessions which uses the accessible paths around the woodland and adopts a particularly gentle, slow pace, with plenty of opportunities to sit and rest.

If you, or anyone in your party, require any adaptations or special considerations, or if you would like to know more about the accessibility of the event, please contact the guide via cm9vdGVkd2VsbGJlaW5ndWsgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ==

Age suitability:

Children aged 5+ and their carers.

Children must be accompanied (maximum of 3 children per adult).

Please note that this is not a drop-off activity. Adults remain responsible for, and must supervise, the children in their care at all times.

Please note that the pace of the session is slow and reflective. If you feel your child may find this challenging, feel free to get in touch for a chat before booking.

Other important info:

No dogs allowed.

Whilst forest bathing embraces all rainy, snowy and sunny weather, it may be necessary to alter or cancel an event if it is not safe to proceed – this is most likely in the event of high winds or thunderstorms.
