Arriva con un suono antico, che sembra salire dalla terra stessa: il richiamo delle brogne, le grandi conchiglie che da secoli annunciano la Festa della Rusedda. È un suono arcaico, quasi primordiale, che attraversa le vie e risveglia un sentimento che appartiene a tutti, anche a chi non sa spiegare da dove nasce.

La storia della Rusedda affonda le sue radici nel mondo rurale, quando gli stovigliai e i ceramisti di Caltagirone percorrevano il Bosco di Santo Pietro per raccogliere la rusedda, il cisto selvatico che alimentava i forni della ceramica. Era un gesto semplice, quotidiano, ma carico di significato: la natura offriva ciò che serviva per trasformare l’argilla in arte, per dare forma a un mestiere che avrebbe reso la città famosa nel mondo.

Col tempo, quel gesto si trasformò in rito. La rusedda non era più soltanto un combustibile: diventò un simbolo di gratitudine, di lavoro, di identità. Il corteo, ancora oggi, è un atto di devozione: un cammino che unisce fede e quotidianità, sacro e popolare.

It arrives with an ancient sound that seems to rise from the earth itself: the call of the brogne, the large conch shells that for centuries have announced the Festa della Rusedda. It is an archaic, almost primordial sound that travels through the streets and awakens a feeling that belongs to everyone, even to those who cannot explain where it comes from.
The history of the Rusedda is rooted in the rural world, when the stovigliai and ceramists of Caltagirone walked through the Bosco di Santo Pietro to gather the rusedda, the wild rockrose used to fuel the ceramic kilns. It was a simple, everyday gesture, yet full of meaning: nature offered what was needed to transform clay into art, giving shape to a craft that would make the city famous throughout the world.
Over time, that gesture became a ritual. The rusedda was no longer just fuel: it became a symbol of gratitude, of work, of identity.
