Tribute to Elis Regina and Toots Thielemans With DARIA and Brian Byrnes
Please join us for this special concert of Brazilian music honoring two legendary musicians: Toots Thielemans and Elis Regina, who recorded one album together, Honeysuckle Rose Aquarela Do Brasil in 1969. Brian Byrnes and DARIA will be performing select songs from this release, as well as songs that Toots and Elis recorded and performed as individual artists, for a magical evening of Bossa Nova, Jazz and Samba!
DARIA is an innovative vocalist and songwriter with a beautiful voice, unerring pitch and a wide vocal range. Her repertoire seamlessly blends different genres of music including Jazz, Pop, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban Rhythms. Known for her versatility, soulful and expressive style and putting her own spin on jazz and pop standards, DARIA has delighted audiences in the Bay Area and beyond. She has three critically-acclaimed CDs, including her latest project, Strawberry Fields Forever, Songs by the Beatles. She is included in the book The Jazz Singers by Jazz critic Scott Yanow, and has shared the stage and/or recorded with Dan Hicks, Joe Sample, Christian McBride, Lewis Nash, Harvie S, Roni Ben-Hur, Bob Dorough, Dave Grisman, Rickie Lee Jones, Maria Muldaur, Tuck and Patti, Alex Acuña, Abe Laboriel, Marcos Silva, Wayne Wallace and Frank Martin. DARIA toured for 10 years with the legendary Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks.

Brian Byrnes is a Bay Area Jazz vocalist, harmonica player, guitarist and songwriter. He has performed in the Bay Area in many musical settings for two decades, including notable venues such as The Sweetwater, 142 Throckmorton Theater, The Monkey House, John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom Room, Armando’s and the Orinda Jazz Festival. Brian has shared the stage with Jules Broussard, Peter Barshay, Damien Masterson, Lee Bloom, Myron Cohen, Keith Saunders, Kai Eckhardt, Laucia Paiva, Ben Flint and many others. His new project, The Brian Byrnes Trio, has been making waves on the local Jazz scene. After playing in Rock, Blues and Brazilian bands, Brian discovered the chromatic harmonica in 2001 and started playing Jazz. In 2009 he was the soloist with the San Francisco Sinfonietta Orchestra on a piece entitled “Chroma,” written for chromatic harmonica by his son Brendan Byrnes. Brian released his debut EP in 2016 with The Brian Byrnes Trio: Only For You. Recently, Brian and Jules Broussard teamed up as the Brian Byrnes Band and can be heard at venues around the Bay Area.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, general admission; $10 students with ID. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available at the link below, or you may purchase your tickets at the door the night of the show. Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash only at the door (ATMs are nearby).
