February 11: Bart Lombardo The Soft Hackle: A Highly Effective but Often Overlooked Fly Pattern
The timeless effectiveness of soft hackle flies for trout is priceless. Bart will explain what soft hackles imitate, why trout respond so strongly to their subtle movement, and when they are most effective throughout the season. Learn essential patterns and color guidelines. The goal is to help anglers fish soft hackles with confidence and add a subsurface approach to their everyday trout fishing.
February 18: Tim Flagler: Early Season Indicator Nymphing
With higher flows and lethargic fish, nymphing while using indicators is often one of the keys to success. It enables you to fish a wide variety of fly sizes and weights, execute long, drag-free drifts and effectively fish further away than Euro-nymping.
Feb 25: Matt Grobert "Fishing Dry Flies & Emergers for Trout"
Matt is a noted author on local fly fishing with several titles to his credit. "Fishing Dry Flies & Emergers for Trout". Emerger fly fishing targets trout during a hatch by imitating insects (mayflies, caddis, midges) transitioning from nymphs to adults just below or within the surface film. Key tactics include using a dry-dropper rig (9-12 inches below a dry fly) or dead-drifting just under the surface to catch trout feeding on helpless, trapped bugs. Top patterns include the RS2, WD40, Soft Hackle Hare's Ear, Barr Emerger, and CDC-based flies
