- **Event Name**: "Venus as a Potentially Habitable Planet" with Dr. Sara Seager OC.
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 14 Mar, 2026 at 02:30 pm – Sat, 14 Mar, 2026 at 04:00 pm
- **Event Description**: On March 14, the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada - Calgary Centre brings another exciting space chat to Spark's Infinity Dome theatre. Attend "Venus as a Potentially Habitable Planet" with Canadian-American astronomer and planetary scientist, Dr. Sara Seager OC.

Explore one of the most intriguing ideas in planetary science. For decades, scientists have wondered whether the cooler cloud layers of Venus, 48 to 60 km above its scorching surface, could offer the right conditions for life. Yes, the clouds of Venus are made of concentrated sulfuric acid—but new lab experiments are challenging what we thought we knew about chemistry in extreme environments.

This talk dives into cutting-edge research on how the building blocks of life, including nucleic acid bases, amino acids, and lipids, might survive in sulfuric acid conditions. It’s astrobiology at its boldest!

Sara Seager is a Canadian-American astronomer and planetary scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was the Deputy Science Director of NASA’s TESS mission, a leader in exoplanet atmosphere research, and now leads the ambitious Morning Star Missions to Venus in the search for signs of life in Venus’ clouds.

If you love space mysteries, planetary exploration, or the question “Are we alone?”... this is for you! ?
