This workshop is designed for painters of all levels from beginners to experienced artists alike who want to improve their compositions through the use of notans.
Notans focus on simplification and visual balance and offer an artistic rather than literal way of seeing, helping artists develop stronger and more effective compositions in their work.
Throughout the day, participants will engage in demonstrations and hands-on exercises using acrylic paint. This immersive experience will deepen your understanding of composition, enabling you to immediately apply new skills and techniques to your painting practice.
Students are asked to bring their own painting supplies along with photographic references; see .
This class offers a unique opportunity to explore composition through simplified value studies, gaining a fresh perspective that will enhance your artistic practice.
Alice S. Helwig, the instructor, has been painting in acrylic since the age of 12. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Lethbridge and has taught artists at every level. Alice is a seasoned art educator, award-winning painter, former host of the Shaw Cable TV show Canvas, and a demonstration artist for Liquitex. She brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for acrylic painting methods to every class she teaches.
