Its name is likely a derivation of “Sunny Alberta.” Sunalta was developed in two phases, first in 1909 and then in 1911. The area was established as a residential community in 1912. In the 1950s, Sunalta was rezoned and redeveloped to contain a number of apartment style walkups.
