Workshop description: Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention combined safe resident and materials handling helps give care staff the skills needed to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury (MSI). MSIs are one of the highest categories of injury in the continuing care industry. This course is designed to provide best practice technique to help staff work more effectively, efficiently, and productively while reducing the overall risk of injury.
Identify the early signs and symptoms of a musculoskeletal injury (MSI) and explain its potential impacts.
Identify resident handling and materials handling related hazards that can lead to injury.
Implement methods to reduce the risk of injury based on hazards.
Know the basics of, and demonstrate the use of, good body mechanics in relation to resident and materials handling.
Activities: Theoretical instruction with approximately 3.5 hours of hands-on practice.
