Want to learn how to Ice Dive? Yeah, we know you do! It's one of the most fascinating types of diving out there! With one of the most comprehensive recreational ice diving courses around, we'll teach you all about safety, procedures, and techniques related to ice diving - and you'll learn it all from divers experienced in ice and overhead environments!
Just a head's up that we have dramatically reduced the number of students for this course to allow for our appropriate measures to be maintained, so spots are quite limited this year!
Prerequisites:
-Minimum Advanced Open Water certified for the full course (Open Water for the Adventure Dive)
-Drysuit Certified
-Minimum 18 years old
Recommended:
-Cold water experience
-Lots of drysuit dives
-A certain sense of craziness
Learn how to work as a team - including acting as surface support, line tender, and safety diver. Learn more than you cared to know about ice, how to get a site ready, and how to deal with emergency procedures related to colder diving. And, of course, put it all into practice, and go for some dives under the ice!
While we would typically supply BBQ on the ice, this will be determined closer to the date based on COVID recommendations at that time.
Our instructors on this course regularly dive in overhead environments, so you'll likely learn a little bit more than you thought you would on how to really plan for a dive under ice!
Training Sessions:
Classroom: Tuesday, February 16 @ 6pm (At TDS, though this may be held virtually!)
Pool Session: Thursday, February 18 @ 6pm (At TDS)
Dives: Saturday, February 20 - Sunday, February 21 @ Lake Minnewanka
Cost is $329 + GST! Course includes classroom session, pool session (including use of pool gear), three ice dives (with the option for a fourth if you're Rescue Certified!), Instructors, Divemasters, a pile of assistants, all the ice site set up gear (you don't need to bring your own chainsaw!), BBQ lunch on Saturday and Sunday (if permitted - if not, we'll have pre-packaged snacks!), and all the hot chocolate you can handle!
Not Included: Gear rentals are not included, as many divers already have their own gear - but if you need to rent, no worries! As a student, you get 50% off all your rentals! The only things we don't rent? Masks, open heel fins, and dry gloves. You don't need a snorkel, under ice it's more of a hazard than a help!
