Montreal raised Emily Triggs landed in Alberta by way of West Virginia where she spent years exploring American folk music. This guitarist, singer, songwriter takes you on a journey through influences and experiences that have shaped her folk, roots, alt country sound, hitting charts across Canada as well as cracking the USA’s Alternative Country Specialty Chart and special mention in the American Songwriter Magazine. Her music grips the heart and elevates the soul. Her songs are double edged, unapologetic and a unique sound in the genre of folk/rock.
The Great Escape will not let listeners down as Emily continues to push boundaries as an artist, this being her most honest writing and recording to date. Produced in Vancouver by Paul Rigby (guitarist/collaborator Neko Case) the album captures the undeniably authentic style of songwriting and arrangement that reflects the world of music that Emily has built around her with an energy and a significance that goes beyond her recordings. Emily has her own thread of folk/roots filled with a lifetime of music and influences and shares stories through songs with an endearing simplicity that belies their emotional depth.
John Borra
John Borra is a respected figure in the Toronto music scene, a true product of the city’s ever-evolving alternative and roots music movements. From his early immersion in the rebellious energy of punk rock to his exploration of roots music and alt-country, Borra’s music reflects a career shaped by passion, authenticity, and a commitment to his craft. Inspired by artists like Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and Patti Smith, he was drawn to Toronto’s underground scene in the 1980s, where he played in several bands that helped shape
the city's alternative music landscape.
Known for his songwriting that balances raw energy with folk sensibilities, he’s a musician who’s neverbeen afraid to remain true to his artistic roots. In the 1990s, Borra embraced his true calling as a solo artist, blending the rebellious spirit of punk with the storytelling traditions of folk, country, and Americana. His 1997 self-titled debut and 2020’s Blue Wine earned critical acclaim for their genre-defying approach, balancing poetic honky-tonk with fiery, punk-infused barnburners. Cassettes In Common further showcases
his artistry, offering reimagined songs by iconic Canadian singer-songwriters and reflecting his deep personal connection to each track. His latest album, Last Dance at the E Room, is both a personal reflection and tribute to his late mentor, Peter J. Moore, and the E Room studio, a place that played a significant role in his creative development. With every project, Borra continues to push musical boundaries, staying true to his roots while maintaining a reputation as one of the most authentic voices in Canadian music.
