Community Clean Up
Each year, the City of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services teams up with Community Strategies and local community associations to host a highly anticipated event that helps residents declutter their homes and dispose of unwanted household items and waste free of charge. This initiative provides a convenient alternative to a trip to the landfill, especially for those who don’t have access to regular cart service.
The event features three packer trucks with crews on-site, ready to handle a variety of items. Community members are encouraged to bring their unwanted metals, appliances, clothing, furniture, electronics, and general waste or recycling to this drive-through-style event. Last year, the event was a massive success, with 480 cars passing through to drop off materials.
In addition to the City of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services, several recycling and donation partners participate, including Bowest Appliances, the Women in Need Society, and Techno Trash. These organizations ensure that as many items as possible are repurposed, recycled, or donated, making this event not only convenient but also environmentally responsible.
