CEMC - Fryer, Galois and Hypatia Contests
by University of Waterloo
Grades 9-11 - $10
The Fryer, Galois and Hypatia Math Contests are an opportunity for students to write a full-solution contest. They are fun way to develop mathematical problem-solving skills through a written mathematical activity. Questions are based on curriculum common to all Canadian provinces. Rather than testing content, most of the contest problems test logical thinking and mathematical problem solving. Students in Grade 9 or below are eligible to write the Fryer Contest, students in Grade 10 or below are eligible to write the Galois Contest and students in Grade 11 or below are eligible to write the Hypatia Contest. It is a 75-minute contest consisting of 4 questions. Some questions require a full solution and marks are assigned for form and style of presentation. The contest is scheduled on Thursday, April 12, 2018 in the morning, so the contestants will require to miss part of the school day. Most calculators are permitted in the contest.
