Please join us for the opening reception on Sat, June 6 from 5-7 pm to view the artwork and enjoy refreshments, artist remarks, and live music. This program was created to meet a need for more direct support for early career or emerging artists in Houston County, in comparison to the amount of support for artists in neighboring counties. Through this program, Mainspring aims to foster a more supportive and inter-connected arts community in the largely rural Houston County. ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Sarah Jane Babinski, specializes in acrylic paint, watercolor, and mixed media; she enjoys painting abstract pieces that explore emotions and landscapes with vibrant, eye-catching colors. Currently she attends the University of Minnesota where she pursues a degree in Studio Arts and Music. Sammi Boyd crafts original stained glass pieces using patterns she has designed, as well as pieces using patterns from other artists. Bringing contemporary elements to a traditional art form is an important part of her stained glass and pattern design work. Sammi lives in Spring Grove, MN with her husband, Matt, and two dogs, Poppy and Goose. Heather Larson is a self-taught artist who lives in Caledonia. Heather pursues many art forms, including acrylic painting, jewelry, wood burning, and crafts. Heather loves to paint nature, landscapes, sunsets flowers, and her favorite is trees. Heather’s art business is called Meraki Arts and Design. Her shop is in Emerald Lane in Caledonia on Kingston Street. Rachel Von Arx is a Houston County native that has been drawn to art all her life. She is a self-described “doodler” using pen and paper to spread positive affirmations through her art name, “Figmented Ink Doodles”. She graduated from Ripon College in 2011 with a double major in English and Studio Art. ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Through the Houston County Artist Mentorship Program the four mentee artists have been mentored over the course of eight months through 1) art workshops taught by regional mentor artists; 2) tailored art career mentor sessions; 3) artist career training courses taught by leading Midwest arts organization Springboard for the Arts; and 4) this culminating art exhibit at Mainspring. Thank you to the Mentor Artists for this cohort: TiAnna DeGarmo, Jovy Rockey, Miranda Lomeli-O'Reilly, Sharon Mansur, Kathryn Savage, and Moheb Soliman.
