- **Event Description**: Saturday 3rd October from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Drill Hall, the Chepstow Archaeology Fair  includes lots of hands-on heritage crafts and archaeology; suitable for children of all ages!  Free entry for all. 
Activities include: medieval tile making, clay pipe making, willow craft, spinning, corn dolly making. You will have the opportunity of handling some archaeological finds, including bones and ceramics (i.e. broken pottery!). We will also have on display: Bronze Age metal work, Tapestry making (think of Bayeux), copper engraving, lace making and crewel work and the The Black Rock Lave Net Heritage fishermen from the Severn.  You will also be able to see medical instruments from Roman to Victorian times (hope you are not squeamish) and Archery equipment and techniques. 
Professional archaeologists will also be there, including Katie Churchill, Black Mountain Archaeology, and Adam Sanford will have some modern hi-tech kit on show too. Katie will also have information on the Heritage Crime Unit. The MoD Casualties unit will show what they do for recovering and honouring human remains from old battle sites, and we will have a VR display from the Newport ship.
Local history and archaeological societies will have stands describing what they do, (including of course ourselves!), the Caerleon Young Archaeologist Group which actively engages youngsters, The Monmouthshire Antiquarians, the Shirenewton History Group, the Dean Archaeology Group and the Chepstow Society.  Heritage organisations will be represented by Heneb, and our good friends and collaborators SARA will be there as well. 
Setting the atmosphere will be a Welsh Harpist, and just for fun we will have 3 Roman Soldiers from Caerleon and a Civil War soldier in uniform!
The afternoon will be rounded off at 16:00 with a prestige lecture by archaeologist Professor Mark Horton, of Time Team, Coast and well known to us! Guaranteed to be interesting, entertaining and provocative. Entry £5 per head.
