Chepstow Coffee Concerts, a monthly series of professional standard recitals performed by superb musicians. The concerts are held on the third Friday of the month at St Mary’s Priory, Chepstow. They are an hour long with different performers every month.
Please join us for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat before or after
the concert!
We apply a ‘donations, please pay what you can’ policy.
Our concerts are raising money for the Karl Daymond Bursary which helps the future generation of musicians.

Nicholas Shipman studied initially with Jack Brymer OBE before gaining a place at the Guildhall
School of Music and Drama where he studied with Joy Farrall, Michael Whight and Thea King. His
studies continued at the Royal Conservatorium for Music in The Hague with Sjef Douwes. He has
appeared as soloist with many orchestras and has performed in venues such as the Wigmore Hall,
Barbican Hall, Fairfield Halls Croydon, St George’s Bristol, The Purcell Room, Concertgebouw
(Amsterdam), Cité de La Musique (Paris) and De Doelen (Rotterdam). He has appeared at the
festivals of Aldeburgh, Dartington and Cheltenham and the Muziek in de Maartenskerk
International Chamber Music series in the Netherlands. He has played concerts throughout the
UK, Europe and the USA.

Stefan Hofkes was born in the Netherlands where he studied the piano and conducting at the
Utrecht Conservatoire under Alan Weiss, Alexander Warenberg and David Porcelijn. He continued
his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Stefan is in demand as a
pianist, having performed in venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and Amsterdam
Concertgebouw and has released several CD’s to critical acclaim. He was musical director of the
Reading symphony Orchestra and Bristol Concert Orchestra as well as Artistic Director of the
Kairos Ensemble. After leaving the UK he continues conducting concerts and opera throughout
Europe.

David Lewis
Following studies at the Royal College of Music, London David was for many years a member of Welsh Nat Opera.
Since becoming freelance David has worked with major UK orchestras, on concert platform and opera pit.
Theatre credits include several productions with RSC in Stratford, and on the silver screen David has appeared in ‘The madness of King George’ and ‘Youth’(Sorrentino)
Wearing his ‘period instrument’ hat David has performed with groups such as Academy of Ancient Music, (AAM) London Classical players, and London Handel Orch. He has toured USA and Japan with AAM and Canada with the 18th century concert orchestra, an ensemble he leads and directs.
David is a tutor with “Making music changing lives” (MMCL) in Cardiff, string coach for London Schools Symphony Orchestra and regular dep with Centre for young musicians (Guildhall) A former leader of RSO, he is in demand as an educator and adjudicator.
