Semester Theme: Crafting Connection and Land Stewardship
The Spring semester of Forest School focuses on developing patience, fine motor skills, creativity, and land awareness through hands-on bushcraft and nature-based exploration. As the forest comes back to life, students will deepen their connection to the land while building practical outdoor skills.
Core Focus Areas:
🪢 Knot Tying & Rope Work
Students will learn essential knots and lashings used in outdoor settings, strengthening problem-solving abilities and teamwork skills.
🔪 Whittling & Carving
Through guided carving sessions, students will practice safe tool use while developing focus, patience, and craftsmanship. Projects may include simple tools, spoons, mallets, or functional woodland items.
🎨 Nature Crafts & Creative Expression
Using natural materials, students will explore basketry, cordage, and woodland art, reinforcing both creativity and resourcefulness.
🍄 Spring Mushroom & Plant Explorations
Students will be introduced to seasonal mushroom identification and spring plant awareness, learning about ethical foraging, habitat respect, and stewardship principles. Students will begin their field guide journals and plant study.
Program Outcomes
Throughout the semester, students will:
• Strengthen leadership and teamwork skills
• Build confidence through safe tool use and skill mastery
• Practice mindfulness and awareness in seasonal environments
• Deepen their understanding of ecological stewardship and ethical harvesting
