For over 50 years, Bluegrass Experience has been one of North Carolina's most influential traditional bluegrass bands. Founded in 1971 by Tommy Edwards and Snuffy Smith,and including Al McCanless, Paul & Donald “Earl”Beane, and Charles Lee Conrad, the group became a fixture of the Triangle music scene, especially through its long-running Thursday-night performances at Cat's Cradle during the 1970s and early 1980s. Other members over the years included Leroy Savage, Keith Thomas, Mike Aldridge, Stan Brown, & Jimmy Cameron.

The current lineup includes: 
Scott Hancock, Stan Brown, Al McCanless, Keith Thomas, Mike Aldridge, and Julie Brown.

Their musicianship is second to none, featuring lightning-fast picking and heartfelt vocals--exquisite performances that bring generations together and remind us why North Carolina is home to such a rich bluegrass tradition.

It's a BFP tradition to close the summer season with this very popular and legendary band!  We can't wait to see you!

Spend a summer evening enjoying live music in one of Chatham County's most distinctive settings. The Bynum Front Porch Summer Music Series takes place on 17 Friday evenings from May through August, from 7:00–8:30 PM, at the historic Bynum General Store, where local and regional musicians perform in a relaxed outdoor setting near the Haw River. This year is our 25th season!

Admission is free, with voluntary donations appreciated to support the featured artists. A food truck is on site each week, making it easy to enjoy dinner before or during the performance. Ice cream & soft drinks are for sale in the iconic general store.

Guests are welcome to bring a lawn chair or use the seating provided. Free parking is available in the adjacent field and at the Bynum ball field. For the comfort and safety of all attendees, alcohol and pets are not permitted.

Whether you're discovering the series for the first time or returning for another season, Bynum Front Porch offers an inviting way to experience exceptional live music and the enduring spirit of this historic mill village.




NOTE: In cases of extreme weather, our Friday night shows move to inside the cozy air conditioned Bynum General Store, where there is a stage and where chairs will already be set up (no need or room for lawn chairs, thanks).
