Part of the Buxton Belle Époque Weekend
Step back in time to the late Victorian era and join us for a lively Ceilidh celebrating the hardworking men and women of the Buxton Spa. Dance to traditional folk tunes, enjoy spirited ceilidh calling with Maplewood Ceilidh, and experience the convivial atmosphere that would have delighted spa workers after a long day.
During this period, collectors went out and noted country dances as they were being done or remembered. It was also a period in which older dances were researched and published. This Ceilidh will aim to recreate the vivacity of a community dance, including some of the dances collected or interpreted in that era.
