“I Do: A Cultural History of Montana Weddings" traces the history of Montana’s weddings – and, by extension, the history of Montana itself – from the fur trade era to the present. Through wedding stories recounted in letters, diaries, reminiscences, oral histories, and newspaper articles, I Do explores the lives of ordinary Montanans, examining how their weddings changed over time and what this ritual tells us about the social, political, and economic trends that shaped Montana. The entertaining narrative combines engaging stories with insightful analysis and intriguing photographs to provide an intimate and surprising look at a ceremony central to the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Readers will find themselves enthralled, both by Montana’s vibrant, multicultural past and by fascinating insights into one of America’s most enduring traditions and important rites of passage.” – synopsis of I Do: A Cultural History of Montana Weddings
