In 2026 we will be delivering several ambitious long-distance Challenge Trails. To complete some of these challenges, you should be of reasonable fitness and able to walk at a pace of approx. 3 mph (5kmph) on the flat, for up to 12 hours, but if you don't think you are quite there yet, this is where our Challenge Trail Training comes in. CTT will be a series of training walks over 6 weeks, every Saturday, from Jan 3rd, in East Lancashire / West Yorkshire.
By building our speed and endurance over 6 weeks, we will grow both the distance covered and elevation climbed.
Greenbooth and Deeply Vale will be the first of six CTT walks. This is a 10.5 - mile / 16.8km (1621ft / 494m climb) route across and over rugged moorland, passing serene reservoirs and climbing Knowl Hill. This could be a wet and muddy route and will contain some stiles and difficult terrain. AS this is the first walk we aim to complete this route in approx. 5.5 hours, including short rest / snack breaks.
Who is CTT for?
CTT is for those who are walking regularly already (at about the 2-mph mark) over 10 miles, but still feel they have a long way to go to increase their speed and distance. If you think that may be you, keep reading...
It's for you if you want to walk regularly, gaining speed over a few weeks.
It’s for you if, perhaps you would struggle to motivate yourself alone.
It’s for you if you want to walk in a group with an empathetic, qualified leader, who will add challenge appropriately and provide a supportive atmosphere.
