Baiana is the Brazilian-inspired project of Liverpool-born singer-songwriter Laura Doyle.

Refreshingly joyful and charismatic, Baiana’s live show promises a heady mix of infectious rhythm, superb musicianship, and beautiful songs. The full band, including the trio from the Haggis Horns, is coming to Buxton. Dubbed ‘the band we are all obsessed about’ (Deb Grant, BBC 6 Music) and featuring a line-up of some Europe’s leading jazz musicians, Baiana’s thrilling live shows have been described as ‘Outstanding’ (Robbie Vincent Jazz FM) and ‘a proper wow factor performance’ (John Osbourne Solar Radio).
 
Laura was inspired to form Baiana after living in Rio de Janeiro and falling in love with the city’s vibrant music scene. Harmoniously blending fiery Sambas, Bossa Nova, Baião, and everything in between, Laura evokes the spirit of Brazilian greats such as Elza Soares, Gal Costa, and Elis Regina and romantic torch singers of the 40s and 50s while bringing her own unique voice to life through her original work.
 
Baiana burst onto the scene in 2022 with breakthrough single ‘Saudade Samba’ which spent an unprecedented 14 weeks on the Jazz FM A- list and was even credited with ‘putting Liverpool on the jazz map’ (The Big Issue). Baiana’s acclaimed debut album, produced by legendary Latin percussionist Snowboy has featured on Channel 4, BBC 5 Live, 6 Music, BBC Wales, Solar and many more. We are very please to say that Snowboy will be on the gig.
 
A hugely popular draw at Love Supreme and Ealing Jazz festival, Baiana also headlined the Southend Jazz Festival as well as supporting Brazilian mega-star Gilberto Gil on his UK tour.
