Sport related concussion is one of the most pressing health concerns in professional and community sport. This symposium brings together researchers and sport practitioners to share the latest insights into how concussions occur, how they affect the brain, and new approaches being developed to improve diagnosis and recovery.Attendees will hear about cutting edge research using brain imaging, biomarkers and wearable technologies that are helping to detect and monitor concussion more accurately than ever before.Alongside the science, the symposium will explore real world challenges of managing concussion in sport environments. Practitioners will discuss how concussion protocols are applied on the ground, the barriers to implementation, and the evolving strategies being used to reduce risk from rule changes and education to return to play guidelines.Presenters and Guest Panellists.Dr. Spencer Roberts – Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellow.Spencer is a member of the Centre for Sport Research (CSR) within the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN). His research is focused on developing novel approaches for mitigating the risks and consequences of head impacts in collision sport.Assoc. Prof. Jonathan Robertson – Deakin Business School.Jonathan is Associate Head of School Research with primary research interests including social responsibility, social change, and integrity management in the sport industry, with the aim to make sport safer, fairer, and more inclusive for individuals, organisations, and communities.Nick Harrison – Physiotherapist, Melbourne United Basketball Club.Nick is a director at Hoops Physio with 16 years experience working as a physiotherapist in professional and community sport. He has worked across a range of sports, including basketball, Australian football, tennis and athletics.Aidan Ryan – Director of Rugby, Haileybury College.Aidan Ryan is a World Rugby Level 3 Certified Coach with nearly 15 years of experience in schools' rugby. Prior to moving to Melbourne, he worked in a highly competitive elite rugby program at St Michael’s College in Dublin, Ireland.
